The idea dreamed by some of our elders (Anselmo Valencia, Dr. Fernando Escalante, Justo Estrella,
Jenny Murrietta, David Ramirez along with Chairman Robert Valencia and council) has become a reality for the Pascua Yaqui children.
The Pascua Yaqui Tribe is pleased to announce and invites the Community to the ribbon cutting of the new preschool, scheduled
for September 13, 2002 at 5060 W. Calle Tetakusim. We are happy to announce this momentous occasion that has been long awaited by
our community members.
We
would also like to commend all the parties involved in achieving this goal to bring this project on time and within budget.
Additionally, we are looking forward to the expansion of this facility scheduled to begin early October, which includes two additional classrooms.
The newly constructed building is approximately 10,838 sq. ft with a capacity of serving 138 students. This has increased the total
number of children on the Reservation being served currently. The facility has six classrooms and a large multi-purpose room.
Tribal Council has contributed over $1,000,000 towards the construction of the new facility so that dreams can become a reality
for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe.
The Head start program is unique in its own way because it has incorporated the teaching of the Yaqui Culture to the children so they
can someday explain it to their children.
The Tribal Council being sensitive to the special needs of the community, enthusiastically made this project a priority after
taking office in June 2000.
