Fast and Abstinence for Catholics

LENT BEGINS:

Regulations for lent

Ash Wednesday and all Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence for Catholics, beginning at age 14 and ending at age 60. Abstinence requires that we eat no meat or meat products on those days.

In addition, two of those days, Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are also days of fasting, which mean:

  • Eating only one full meal that day.
  • Two together may not equal another full meal.
  • No eating between meals is permitted on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday .Drinking a non-alcoholic liquid, such as coffee or juice is allowed.

The obligation to fast begins at age 21 and ends with age 60.

Reglas para la cuaresma:

Miercoles de Ceniza y todos los Fiernes de Cuaresma son dias de abstinencia para todos los Catolicos, comensando a la edad de 14 anos y terminandon con 1a edad de 60 anos. Abstinencia requiere de que no se coma carne o productos de carne en esos dias.

Tambien doz de estos dias, Miercoles de Ceniza y Viernes Santo, son dias de ayuno, en los que:

  • Catolicos pueden comer una sola comida en esos dias.
  • La otras doz comidas no pueden completar una sola comida.
  • No se permite comer entre las comidas el Miercoles de Ceniza y el Viernes Santo. Se puede tomar luquidos, como cafe, te, jugos, etc.

La obligacion para ayunar es para todos aquillos que estan entre los 21 y 60 anios de edad.
