Grants Department

The Grants Department assists other Tribal departments, managers, and staff in securing grant funding for various Tribal programs and services. Grants staff collaboratively provides the capacity needed by specific grants or departments, with duties such as identifying, preparing, submitting, and administering grants. As part of the special trust relationship between Native American Tribes and the Federal Government, a significant amount of monies is made available to tribes through various grants. While some grant monies are allocated based on the size of tribal membership, many grant opportunities are competitive and require timely submission to be considered for funding.

Goals:
The Grants Office was reestablished in June of 2017 to better coordinate the grant application, awarding, and monitoring processes. A comprehensive and organized system for grant administration serves the tribal government by better enabling it to manage and maintain current funding, as well as helping to create a successful track record to assist in the acquisition of future funding. An effective system of management for outside grant funding is critical for the tribal government.

Accomplishments:
The Grants Office has created a database to track all grants submitted, awarded, and denied as well as reporting and changes. Policies and procedures for grants has also been updated to reflect current administrative requirements.
